Is your dog or cat rubbing their head or scratching their ears? Your dog or cat may develop painful and sometimes dangerous ear conditions. These may include ear mites, infections, hair balls, foreign objects lodged in the ear, or have an injury to their ear canal or ear drum as a result of a trauma.

It is not uncommon for the underlying cause of an ear infection to go undiagnosed or be undertreated, leading to chronic infection, scarring of the inner ear, hearing loss, and/or other generalized infections. Therefore, Tails-A-Waggin Animal Hospital performs a thorough evaluation of your pet’s ears during all wellness visits and aggressively treats infections and other ear conditions.

We encourage you to schedule a visit for your dog or cat if you suspect your pet may be suffering from an ear infection. If your pet is exhibiting any of the following symptoms, please give us a call:

  • Discharge from the ear.
  • Redness or swelling around the ear.
  • Scratching or pawing at the ears, excessive contact with the ears, or unusual head shaking.
  • Noticeable ear pain.
  • Excessive ear wax buildup.
  • Loss of balance and/or suspected hearing loss.
